Course agenda
Our advanced course is appropriate for organisations with more extensive experience of bidding and tendering and in most cases is delivered to delegates who have already undertaken the intermediate-level course. We explore persuasive writing techniques relevant to tendering, as well as more advanced project management approaches for bidders.
For participants in our advanced-level training, it is expected that an effective, winning approach to bidding is already being followed; the advanced-level training is designed to make success more consistent and to support organisations to optimise their success rates in instances where the difference between winning and losing is very narrow.
Core themes include:
- Capture planning, expanding on standard ‘bid/no bid’ processes to embed a more strategic approach at the commencement of each tender
- Project management for bid managers, including more advanced approaches to managing complex bids with numerous stakeholders
- Expert use of evidence; how to maximise the impact of evidence and ensure evaluators see its value and significance
- Advanced writing techniques, exploring intelligent and strategic use of language to maximise the professionalism, flow and impact of responses
- Modes of persuasion and their application in bid writing; moving away from descriptive approaches that focus on outputs and instead linking your proposals to resultant outcomes and experiences
- Presentation and design to make bids come alive
- Social return on investment (SROI) perspectives to embed a more strategic approach to social value questions and stand out from the crowd.
Practical activities and examples reinforce the course objectives throughout the day. Prior to the training taking place, we will review a sample of recent responses, allowing our experienced training team to pinpoint key areas for further improvement in your approach to responding to tender questions. These target opportunities for improvement that will be integrated into the one-day course alongside the core agenda items listed above.

By learning to apply the same proven techniques that our own highly experienced bid writers apply, your team will become more skilled in maximising the persuasive impact of your proposals and making the link from your commitments to the resultant service outcomes and, crucially, practical benefits explicitly clear to discerning evaluators.
Alongside writing-related themes, you will also learn advanced approaches to bid project management, including the fundamentals of capture planning.
Social value is also covered, with more advanced and strategic approaches to developing, monitoring and improving your social value impact presented, along with how to develop skills in articulating your approaches to evaluators.
Requirements
The advanced-level course is suitable for organisations and delegates already at an intermediate level, looking to refine bid management techniques and bid writing skills to an advanced level. We would recommend undertaking our intermediate level training prior to the advanced level.
Organisations benefiting from the advanced-level course will be experienced in writing winning bids but with the outcome of winning more consistently.
Delivery
Our training is delivered by bid writing experts with at least ten years’ experience, providing a practitioner’s view and therefore sharing techniques and tips that are practical and applicable.
The training is delivered online via Teams, Zoom or equivalent, at a date and time to suit you. All training is delivered in a collaborative, workshop-based environment, encouraging active participation.
As the course will be delivered directly and solely to your organisation, the content, examples and overall training will be targeted to you and your desired outcomes. This extends to worked examples and practical exercises being tailored based on your industry and sector, adapted from bids that you have recently submitted.
We deliver the course to any number of delegates, ranging from a single attendee on a one-to-one basis, through to a group of delegates from across your organisation.
